Homemaker and Culture Wars | Biblical Womanhood and Homemaking Encouragement

Homemaker, are you fighting a loosing battle?

Popular today among some of those in the Christian homemaking community, is to fight the current culture nonstop. Please hear me out with what I'm about to say.

First of all, as believers we are not to just go along with the current ungodly agendas or any part of Satan's course for this world. It should grieve us. We are to be keepers at home so that we can guard our own families from false doctrines, ungodly agendas and immoral lifestyle choices to the best of our ability. This might require homeschooling and other similar choices as well. But we must keep in mind that our children also have to choose for themselves whether or not to believe the gospel of the grace of God and then whether or not to read, study, believe and obey God's word as well.

1 Tim 5:14
“I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.”

That being said, we cannot and will not change the culture. The culture is influenced primarily by unbelievers. All that an unbeliever can do is sin because “whatsoever is not of faith is sin”. An unbeliever only has the carnal sin nature and they do not have God's Spirit in their spirit, nor the word of God in their inner man, to make better decisions in life. They can still choose to believe the gospel or not to as all people have freewill. Even as believers, we still have our vile flesh until the rapture, and so the only way that we can do any good is to allow Christ and His word to live in and through us.

Ephesians 2-2-3
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Satan has a course for this world and it's moving towards the 7 year tribulation and the anti-christ, after the church the Body of Christ is raptured out. The dispensation of grace does NOT end with revival, but with apostasy (read 2 Tim chapter 3!). This means that because so many believers have and will move away from sound grace doctrine that we will see worsening behavior and apostasy in the church. Their has always been only a remnant of true believers or of believers who have come unto the knowledge of the truth and are actually allowing Christ to live in and through them regularly. Even Proverbs 31 tells us this when the Lord asks "who can FIND a virtuous woman"?

That being said it's merely a waste of time trying to constantly fight the culture over morals and values. What we need to be focusing on is getting people saved, and then getting them established and edified in sound grace doctrine so that Christ can live in and through them.

Romans 16:25 - Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,

The Apostle Paul did NOT go on a moral crusade, trying to change the lifestyles of all of the pagan culture but rather was focused entirely on preaching the gospel of the grace of God! Then, once a person was saved, they were to be established and edified in sound grace doctrine which led to lifestyle changes.

Our ministry as homemakers needs to be focused first and foremost in our own homes on raising our children with God's word rightly divided,  and then when appropriate, in the world around us via preaching Christ Jesus according to the revelation of the mystery.

Col 3:1-2
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

We can still vote if we want to and do other such things too (if you believe that that will help things) however, spending the vast majority of our time trying to convince unbelievers or even the apostate believers about moral living and traditional values will fail for the most part on deaf ears. Remember also that God is the real judge, not you. A verse that I think about often especially regarding the current culture is, Romans 12:19 "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord."

We don't have to cave into the culture, but we also don't have to spend all of our precious time trying to fight the culture. I see so many Christian women doing this and very rarely do you hear them sharing a clear gospel message or teaching any kind of sound grace doctrine. Rather they are really very focused on the world and on earthly things (which by the way can be detrimental to your mental health and can also even stress out your family!), but we are to be heavenly minded. Believers on moral crusades will also often loose sight of godly morals because they become more obsessed with being right or being the "winners"!

We need to be thinking more about whether or not a person is saved, and not just trying to get them to live morally. They can't live morally if they aren't saved! They might be able to make some better choices at times, but it won't be based upon faith, it will still be works of the flesh kind of like when Israel was doing animal sacrifices all of the time but didn't have faith in God and his word.

Isaiah 1:13-14 KJB
13 Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.

So dear homemaker please consider refocusing more upon ministering to your own family and then reaching out to others outside of your home with the gospel of the grace of God, instead of fighting a loosing battle with the world.
