Believe and Exalt God's Word | How to Study the Bible

2. Believe and Exalt God's Word

Romans 10:17 -

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

If you, as a believer, want to really know and understand God's word, the next step after being saved is to decide for yourself to believe and exalt God and His word ABOVE ALL ELSE. Very few Christians are actually Bible believers. Many, if not most, follow after man's wisdom above God's word in the form of certain theological systems, denominational teachings, the traditions of men, etc being placed far above God's word. Not only that but they might also exalt other forms of man's wisdom over God's word such as various worldly philosophies, religious superstitions, science falsely so-called, psychology, the latest fashions and trends, politics, etc.

If you decide to be truly "Bible alone", and exalt God's word, you will be going against Satan's course for this world. You will literally be thinking completely differently than the world thinks, and it is not easy to be the opposite to this present evil world!

Ephesians 2:2-3

2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, [all unbelievers and carnally-minded believers walk according to the course of this world] according to the prince of the power of the air [Satan], the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. [Believers that are carnally minded are still saved, but they will have loss of rewards at the believers judgment seat of Christ]

When I was a newager I used to follow a philosophy that taught that you could "get into the flow" and that this flow would bring you prosperity, health, all kinds of friends, romance, etc. Well, in some ways it was actually true except that the "flow" is really Satan's course for this world! When you are a grace believer who believes and rightly divides the scriptures, you will be flowing against this current, so to say, which means that you will suffer. Those people going along with Satan's course are actually perishing, though at times it might look like they "have it all together" or are even "physically blessed." But believers suffer here and now as we live godly, but we are eternally secure in Christ, have Gods Spirit living in our spirit, citizens of heaven who are only temporarily here on earth and are earning rewards for heaven! Unbelievers are focused on the here and now. But believers are to be heavenly minded, thinking about the eternal and putting off the desires of the flesh and choosing to live godly. We do this first and foremost by believing and exalting God and His word.

2 Timothy 3:12

12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

In order to believe and exalt God's word we need to understand what God's word is. John 1:1 says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." In this verse Jesus is called the word of God. The Bible is also called the word of God. The Lord Jesus Christ is essentially called the living word (John 1:14), and the Bible is also called the living word.

Hebrews 4:12 says,

12 For the word of God is quick [this means made alive for a purpose], and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

So, the Lord Jesus Christ is alive and the Bible is alive. Do you see the similarities?

The Lord Jesus Christ has a name that is above all names "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth." (Philippians 2:9-10)

The Bible is so important to God that it says that God Himself exalts the word of God even above His own name!

"...for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name."(Psalm 138:2)

Revelation 1:16 says about the Lord Jesus Christ "16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength." The Bible is also referred to as a two edged sword (Heb 4:12).

All people and even the angels who fell from heaven will be judged according to the word of God BY the word of God, the Lord Jesus Christ (see Revelation 20)!

When you understand the importance of believing and exalting God and His word ABOVE ALL ELSE, you now need to understand that you have a perfectly preserved word of God in the English language that you can read. It is a Bible that is WITHOUT ERROR and doesn't have missing Bible verses. It is the King James Bible. The doctrine of preservation is absolutely important. Without a perfectly preserved word of God, you don't have THE Bible and can be deceived with false doctrine. I recommend studying the issue of preservation more for yourself.

Note: Marianne Manley has a book called "Why the King James Bible is the Holy Bible" and its very good and easy to understand. It's available on Amazon and Kindle.

Now that you are a believer, you have the preserved word of God (the KJB) and you have decided to exalt God and His word above all else, it's important to make daily Bible study a priority. It's amazing how people can say that they don't have time to read and study scripture, but they have plenty of time for social media, TV, movies, shopping, video games, hobbies etc! We have to put off the lusts of the flesh and make the time to read and study God's word and do our best to stick with it. It's OK to still enjoy some downtime too, but we have only so much time here on earth so we ought to use that time wisely.
