Motherhood is Important to God | Women's Bible Study | Biblical Womanhood and Homemaking

Just as marriage is important to God, so is parenting. Fathers and mothers play such an important role in society. God cares deeply about Motherhood. The Lord Jesus Christ had his own earthly mother, a godly Jewish woman that nurtured and cared for him as he grew up. Though she was not perfect herself, she was one of the few people who stood by the Lord when he was being crucified.

Exodus 20:12 says, "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee."

Proverbs 31:28 says, "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her"

As Christian mothers we are to raise our children up in the word of God. Even as grandmother's we are to help teach our own grandchildren the word of God as well (if the parents hopefully permit it!). Timothy was brought up being taught the word of God by his mother and also perhaps by his grandmother.

2 Timothy 1:5

5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

As mothers, we are to love our husbands and children. This is done by us allowing Christ and His word to live in and through us as believers.

Titus 2:3-5 says

3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

God wants us to take care of our families, to grow in the knowledge and wisdom of His word and to teach this first and foremost to our own children. Husbands are also supposed to protect the family, feed and house the family, and teach the word of God as well (Father's are supposed to be the spiritual head of the family; see Ephesians 6:4).

1 Timothy 2:15 says

“Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.”

This verse isn't referring to being saved unto eternal life, but about a Christian woman being saved from idleness which leads to sin. When we are busy taking care of our families, teaching our children Gods word and allowing Christ to live in and through us as believers so that our children and others will hopefully choose to believe the gospel and live godly as well, then we are less likely to spend time doing things that are sinful and that which is not edifying.

This is also why 1 Timothy 5:14 says - I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

Motherhood matters to God!

How to apply this practically

• Read and study out scriptures specifically about Motherhood and homemaking on a regular basis. Let Christ and His word work in and through you as you raise your children.

Journaling Prompt:

• Thank the Lord for your children. Create a gratitude list based on all of the things you are thankful for regarding your children and being a mother.
